Why afaceri Is Trending Today?

The Coaliția has decided not to hold a meeting next week to avoid a scandal ahead of the upcoming local elections in the Capital. The discussion table currently includes the third package of measures, the budget, and potentially the elimination of the minimum tax on turnover, also known as impozitului minim.

Organizations representing businesses in Romania, including the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) and the Patronal Confederation Concordia, have repeatedly called for the elimination of the minimum tax on turnover (impozitul minim pe cifra de afaceri). They argue that this tax, currently at 1%, is discriminatory and significantly increases the effective tax rate on profits, which can reach up to 90%. Business leaders warn that the attractiveness of Romania for investors is decreasing, and many companies are already operating at a loss due to this tax. They urge the government to remove this barrier to investment and economic growth.
