The Indian state of Kerala has decided to ban all products of a pharmaceutical company that produced Coldrif cough syrup, following the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh. Maharashtra has also banned Coldrif syrup after similar incidents in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The Maharashtra FDA has assured citizens that no Coldrif syrup has been supplied in the state, but has flagged a batch linked to child deaths. The Coldrif row has led to a nationwide crackdown, with several states banning the syrup and the FDA citing a toxic industrial solvent as the cause of the deaths. A doctor who prescribed Coldrif for ten years has been arrested in connection with the case. Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have imposed immediate bans on the sale and use of Coldrif syrup, following the deaths of 14 children in Madhya Pradesh. The tragedy has led to the arrest of a doctor and the formation of a Special Investigation Team in Madhya Pradesh.

The drug regulatory authority has called for stern action against the manufacturers of Coldrif cough syrup, following reports of serious offenses. The syrup has been linked to at least 14 fatalities across multiple states, with a doctor arrested in connection to the deaths. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has directed the Tamil Nadu FDA to take strict action against the manufacturer. Madhya Pradesh has banned the sale of Coldrif and arrested a doctor after 11 children died from consuming the syrup, while Kerala has also banned the product following unexplained child deaths. The government has ordered a detailed probe into the Coldrif issue, and several states have suspended or banned the sale of the syrup, with the Health Ministry confirming that samples from a Tamil Nadu plant contained the contaminant Diethylene Glycol (DEG).
