Vlad Pascu was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the May 2nd accident, with the court ruling that he did not act with the intention to kill. The accident was deemed unforeseen and unintentional. Despite being accused of culpable homicide, Pascu was not charged with aggravated homicide. The court considered the case to be typical of a road traffic accident, similar to another case where a drunk driver was sentenced to 24 years for killing four workers. The parents of the victims expressed their dissatisfaction with the sentence, stating that Pascu would be free in a few years while they would never see their children again. The final decision in the case was made by the Court of Appeal in Constanța, two years after the accident.
