The BMKG initially issued a tsunami warning for Indonesia but later lifted it. The earthquake also triggered the eruption of Mount Klyuchevskoy in Russia. In Indonesia, residents of Gorontalo fled to higher ground fearing a tsunami. The BMKG had earlier announced an early tsunami warning for Indonesia due to the Russian earthquake.

On July 30, 2025, a magnitude 8.7 earthquake struck Russia, triggering tsunami warnings and evacuations in Japan, Hawaii, and several Indonesian regions. The BMKG recorded over 40 aftershocks, with the strongest measuring 6.9. Tsunami waves reached Indonesia, with heights up to 0.5 meters in Papua. No significant damage or casualties were reported in Indonesia.
