Manay, a municipality in Davao Oriental, Philippines, has been declared under a state of calamity due to a series of strong earthquakes, with the most recent being a magnitude 7.5 tremor. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) held a press conference to discuss the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that initially struck Manay. Following this, another earthquake of magnitude 6.9 hit offshore Manay. The reported intensity of the earthquake in Manay was later upgraded to VI. Tragically, one person was killed in Manay after being hit by falling debris during the magnitude 7.4 earthquake. In response, the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao suspended all sea travel in its area, advising ships and watercraft to stay alert and take precautions. The magnitude 7.5 earthquake was also felt in nearby General Santos City. Consequently, all levels of classes in Davao City were cancelled following the earthquake in Manay.
