Nicolae Bănicioiu, a former minister, has been definitively acquitted by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) in a case involving bribery. The ICCJ ruled that the role of a judge is not to cater to the emotions surrounding a highly publicized case. Bănicioiu was initially accused of taking a bribe of 800,000 euros, but all charges against him have been dropped. The decision is final, and Bănicioiu will not face further legal action or have to pay the previously confiscated sum of 1.3 million lei.
