Distrigaz, the primary gas distributor in Romania, is at the center of a tragic explosion in Bucharest's Rahova neighborhood. The incident, which resulted in three fatalities and numerous injuries, has raised questions about the company's procedures and responsibility. The explosion occurred in an old building block, with reports suggesting that poorly installed gas facilities, disconnected systems, and superficial procedures by Distrigaz contributed to the disaster. The company has stated that the main gas branch valve, which was sealed with a sigil, was not affected by the explosion. However, it was later revealed that the sigil had been broken, indicating an unauthorized intervention. Distrigaz has since suspended gas supply in the affected area and neighboring sectors. The Minister of Energy has assured that those responsible, including Distrigaz, will face legal consequences, including potential criminal charges. The National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE), along with other institutions, is investigating the incident.
